Shortstop Mark Ammons committed two costly errors in the bottom of the seventh inning that allowed the Moulton Merchants to score a pair of runs and nip Findlay Marlesta Nursing Home in District 2 fast-pitch softball tournament play Sunday night. Marlesta, unbeaten entering the game, meets once-beaten Moulton at 7:30 p.m. today at Riverside Park for the champion ship of the double-elimination tourney. Virgil Brown cracked a one-out triple to right centerfield and tied the game 2-2 when Ammons booted Ron Bowers’ grounder for a two-base error. Ammons’ second miscue of the inning came with two outs when he threw wildly to first on a bouncer off the bat of speedy Terry Haas. Mariesta’s Dave Danhoff and Moulton’s Gary Wibbler each homered in the second inning before the Findlay team took a 2-1 lead in the sixth on a bloop double to right field by Ammons. Terry Marohn was hit by a pitch and Jim Ramsey sacrificed him to second base. Mark Ammons had a single and double for Mariesta while Randy Ammons added a single. Moulton's Brown had two of his squad's five hits. Ron Bowers, who hurled an earlier game Sunday, got his second win of the day. Lynn Kruse’s single scored pinch runner Craig Bower with the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Moulton Merchants nipped the Findlay Amvets 6-5 to advance to the champion ship finals. The lead was exchanged three times before Moulton assured itself of a berth in the 34-team Ohio Open state tournament. Bob Morgan, who had three singles, ended up at second after left fielder Dick Heldman bobbled his hard shot in the final inning and Kruse followed with the clin cher. Catcher Marty Davis gave the Amvets a 5-4 lead in the fifth inning with a two-out, three-run home run over the centerfield fence. Denny Maag, who lead off the game with a clout over the right field barrier, singled and Ken Ankerman commited a throwing error to set up the blast off of a Willie Vetters changeup. Ken Kern follow ed Jim Gangle’s lead hop single with an RBI double in the third for the Amvets’ other run. Moulton, trailing by one, was in trouble in the sixth inning with Ron Myers retir ing the first two batters. However, Virgil Brown singled and centerfielder Ken Kern roamed to his left and dropped Vetters’ fly ball for a three-base error that tied the game. . Terry Haas, Ankerman, Morgan and Kruse singled and second baseman Larry Fisher booted a ground ball as Moulton scored three times in the first frame. Vet ters hit a sacrifice fly for a fourth inning tally. The Findlay Amvets, despite the loss, qualified for the Class A state tourney for the district’s third place team. __ Findlay Mariesta stopped the Amvets 5- 2 Saturday in the winner’s bracket finals Findlay Umpires To Meet Findlay Youth Baseball umpires will have their final meeting of the season at 7 p.m. today in the Eastside Fire Station. Hillcrest Closed Until 2 p.m. The Hillcrest Golf Club course will be closed to the public until 2 p.m. today because of the State Women’s Bowling Association Golf Tournament, with Randy Ammons’ two-run triple to right centerfield the big blow. Mark Ammons, who singled in a first in ning run, doubled to get things started in the fourth frame. After Jim Millen drew a walk off pitcher Carl Maag, Ammons hit his triple and came home on outfielder Gary Franks’ errant throw. Dick Tesnow put Mariesta in front 2-0 with a solo roundtripper in the third inn ing. The Amvets scored Single runs in the fourth and fifth innings with Franks tripl ing for one and Heldman grounding out for the other. Marietta’s Ray Ramsey struck out five while tossing a four-hitter. In Saturday’s other game—in the loser’s bracket— Moulton scored five times in the first inning and eliminated Miller’s Lun cheonette 6-0.
