Lt. Col. Joel McKean, son of Mrs. James E. McKean of Clearfield and a veteran of 15 years in Air Force Service, is currently visiting his mother and family members in the area. He was promoted to his present rank in January 1972 while a teacher at the U. S. Air Force Academy. In the summer of 1972 he was sent by the Academy to Bucharest, Romania, to present a paper at the Fourth International Congress of Logic. He was graduated from Clearfield Area High School in 1951, studied at Park College, Parksville, Mo.; was graduated from Gettysburg College with an AB degree and received his doctorate in mathematics at the University of Pittsburgh in 1960. He is presently stationed at Offutt AFB, Omaha, Neb., at SAC headquarters and teaches evening classes at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He has been honored there as the recipient of the Meritorious Service Award. He is married to the former Carol Steinfeld of California and they have four children.
