Funeral Services Held Thursday Afternoon for Mrs. William HoffmannFuneral services were held last Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock for Mrs. William Hoffmann, 60, at the Hoffmann home northeast of Ren-wick, with .Rev; J. H. Reents, pastor of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran church, officiating. Burial was made in Elmwood cemetery.Mrs. William Hoffmann was born on August 2S, 1879, at Rensburg, Schleswig Holstein, Germany, as Margarets Katherine Louise Levien. In early infancy she was baptized into the name of the Triune God. On April 28, 1SS7, she came to America and the family located at Davenport, Iowa.In the year 1901 she joined hands in holy wedlock with the now mourn-: ing husband, William Hoffmann, i This was a union that fulfilled the solemn marriage vow: To love,, cherish, in sickness and in health,S until death do us part. For seven years they farmed near Davenport, In 1908 they came to Wright county and settled on the farm where they 1 have made their home ever since.’ The departed was called upon to 1 bear a heavy cross. For 22 years she was an invalid suffering from ’ arthritis; many a bitter hour was 1 spent but she bore her affliction in ! the spirit: of patience, uncomplainingly. During all these years she [ was tenderly cared for by her hus-. band and children, and whatever t human hands could do to alleviate her hours of pain, was gladly done.■ ' She was ever a loving wife and t mother and a friend of all who knewher.Tuesday morning of last week, July 23, 1940, she passed away, hav-y ing reached the age of 60 years and y 11 months. Those left to mourn her 1 parting are: The husband, William Hoffmann, ana five children, Mrs.; Elsie Lockwood of Burt, Herbert- Hoffmann at home, Mrs. : Elvira : Bonnstetter of Corwith, Orval Hoffmann of Renwick and Mrs.; Velva^ Christensen of St. Ansgar. There are also five grandchildren. :: She is also survived fcy ■' her aged father, Carl Levieu of Davenport, and the: following brothers and sisters: Albert■ Levien, Mrs. Marie 1 Erps :and Mrs. Helen:Hoffmann:of s' Donahue, Iowa, William ’Levien of I Dixon, Iowa, Mrs. Antonia Calder 1 and Mrs. Anna Jansen of Des Moines, and Mrs. Malinda Werliog of Bode. There are also many other relativesI and friends.The following tribute was written by the children in honor of their mother:“What is home without a mother” has a richness more than the work , and toil she did for us. : There is an enduring tenderness in the love of* mother for her family that trarss-| eends ail other affections of the heart. ‘ In spite of her; long years of suffer-{ ing she was always mindful of eachmember of the family. Her patience and devotion.shall ever linger in our 1 memory. We shall surely miss her, 7 but welcome her to the rest into which she entered. Her 22 years of suffering, borne so uncomplainingly, 3 are ended. The great'comfort she* left us is the consciousness that she I was prepared to meet her Lord, r which will ever be an incentive tofollow her good example.“Weep not for her, for she has crossed the river,7 :We almost saw Him meet her on 7 the shore,r And lead her thru the golden gate, r where never’ Sorrow or death can ever enter more.”' “Weep not for her that she hath r reached before us The safe warm shelter Gf her long . loved home.Weep not for her, she may be bend-1 ing o’er us,. Y. N. Club Meets With jMrs. Raymond Gorrell 1The Know Your Neighbor club j was entertained last Thursday after- j noon at the home of Mrs. Raymond J Gorreli. Roll call was answered by naming an Iowa state park. Mrs. Clarence Hippen gave the lesson on “How to Make a Good Club Better”, and Mrs. L. W, Miller as guest speaker, gave a talk on “The Federation of Clubs”. Mrs. M. M. Green gave the surprise portion of the program.
