A. MacArthur, president of the Citizens' Bridge company, who turned over the attain of the,highway bridge to the repree.entat dinance, as adopted. Is as follows:An Ordinance expressing the ap-1 predation of the City of Burlington. Iowa, of the great public service performed by President J. A. MacArthur and the directors and stockholders of the Citizens Bridge company in building the highway bridge across the Mississippi river and in their Luccesstul management thereof.Whereas In the year 1914 the Commercial Exchange of the City of Burlington. Iowa, appointed a committee to build a highway bridge connecting this city with the state of Illinois.And whereas such committee, for such purpose, organized In 19IS the Citizens’ Bridge company and chose J. A. MacArthur to be president of the same, George C. Boesch. vice president. Ed. B. Egan, secretary and J. L. Edwards, treasurer.And whereas such Citizens’ Bridge company offered to make this a civic j project, by providing that if the city would Join therein and contribute! the proceeds of a two per cent tax.1 on the understanding, that the offl-1 cers of the company would receive ! no salary and that as soon as the revenue of the bridge should dls-' charge the bonds of the company and retire at par its common stock (the dividend of which was limited to 6 per cent) the bridge and the property of such company would become the property of the City of Burlington. Iowa.And. Whereas, the City of Burlington. Iowa, Joined in such agreement with the Citizens Bridge company and the obligations of such company are now discharged and its common stock retired and such company has, by formal written instrument, transferred full title in and to such bridge and all its property to the City of Burlington, Iowa, now therefore on this day. which marks thes of the city this morning.
