Venable As Vice-President Are ChosenANNUAL CONVENTION AT ANNAPOLIS NEXT WEEKAt the regular meeting of the Po-comoke City Rotary Club, held on Monday evening last, the following officers were elected for the year 1937-38:© President, Prof. Verlin C. KrabiU;- Vice-President, Dr. S. J. Venable, D. D.; Secretary, George S. Bunting;© Treasurer, Joseph C. Stevenson; Directors, Dr. R. I. Givens and H. Merrill Walters. These officers will assume their duties on July 1, ’37.An elaborate program has been prepared for the eight hundred Rotar-ians expected at Annapolis, Md., on May 2, 3, and 4 for the twenty-second annual vonvention of the 34th District of Rotary International. David S. Jenkins, who, as president of the Annapolis club, has arranged the program, announces the convention will open on Sunday, May 2, with church srvices in historic St. Anne’s Protestant Episcopal Church. The convention will close Tuesday night,May 4, with a banquet at which Sir Wilmott Lewis, Washington correspondent of the London Times, will be the speaker.In between the Rotarians from 68 clubs in Maryland, District of Columbia, central Pennsylvania and part of West Virginia will attend many meetings and conferences, along with social functions and recreation. Nearly 5,000 Rotarians are eligible to attend the convention, and Chairman Jenkins feels that at least 800 will be cap present. Accommodations for that Acc many visitors have been arranged. ' Sunday night will be devoted to “getting acquainted” at a general gathering to be held at Carvel Hall. Following the opening of the conference Monday morning by singing, presentation of colors, opening comment by President Jenkins, invocation by the Rev. Dr. Edward Darlington Johnson, and selections by the Glee Club of Annapolis High School, an address of welcome will be made by Mayor Louis N. Phipps, a member of the Annapolis Rotary Club. The Mayor’s address is scheduled for 9:50 A.M. It will be folowed by a response by Past District Governor Ignatius (Continued on Page 12)
