SUFFERS FATAL ILLNESS CARING FOR HER SONMrs. George Mayhew Dies of Smallpox After Illness of a Few Days* % \ - • .Particularly sad was the _deatli. ofMrs. George May hew of this', city, which occurred last Saturday at the Charles Coffland home near Watkins, following an illness of five days of smallpox. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 5 o’clock at the Pleasant Hill cemetery in Blairstown, the services being* conducted by Rev. Mitchell.Three weeks ago Mrs. Mayhewwent “to the Cofflaiul home to cavefor her son Rex, who was ill with small pox. She gave him all the tender care and attention that is, prompted by mother love and so well that he'is now 011 the road to recovery. But while doing so she contracted the disease herself and in five days death had claimed her.Mrs. Mayhew was the daughter o. Henry and Anna Leonard and wasborn-in Illinois’ August 14, 1870. She came to Iowa with her parents wheiv 2 years, the family settling near Blairstown where she lived until five years ago when with her family sho mo vied to Marion. February 6, 1890 she was married to George Mayhew, who survives, together with her two sons and five daughters. They are Rex at Watkins, Stella Pearson and Eldo Mayhew at Blairstown, Hazel Stewart, Van Horne, Ethel Bui;t^Wa-terloo, Lucille Mayhew of n Cedar Rapids and Edith MayhW at hpm She is survived by her mother, Wfllives at Upton/ Wyo- '•She was a member of the Presbyterian church at Blairstowh and, Wasactive in all its organizations,' especially in the missionary society. She was also a menibor of the Social clubof Blairstown,
