toHscbetijA shooting affray scarcely less * sensational was one between George nMaddox and George Bauerlin, which took place 011 the streetabout the middle of the blockacross the street from the Farmershotel, ten or eleven years ago. There was bad blood between the two, and one forenoon they met on the sidewalk. Both were armed Maddox having two revolvers in his pocket. At so close a range that the belligerents could almost touch each other, firing began, andcontinued with reports like that oia bunch of exploding firecrackers, until both men had emptied their revolvers. Maddox's last shot struck Bauerlin so that it passedin the eye cavity just above theball. It 5truck|a bone somewhere and was diverted in its course, and subsequently Bauerlin took it fromhis mouth. He was carried homeon a stretcher, and everbody supposed for a time that his injurywas fatal, but within two or three weeks he was on the street again. During the shooting Maddox was struck in the pistol arm, and changing his weapon into the other baud, he continued to fire until Bauerlin fell.MCB♦• **
