Death of Mr. Dodge Cokfitimsd.—The Washington Union ftales that in forma-lion has been received at the Dpartment of; the Interior confirmatory of th* painful rumors respecting the fate of Henry L, Dodge, United States agent for the Navajo Indian* in New' Mexico, who has been missing for | some time pnf.t, and who it was suppose 1 I be had been captured and confined, or killed by the Indians of that Territory.Major Kendrick, commanding at Ft. Defiance, sent out a command in search of Mr. Dodge, dead or alive, and his corpse was discovered at a point about thirty miles south of Znnn, and towards the bend waters of the Gibi,Mr. Dodge being *1 favorite among the Navajo?, and devoted to their interests, renders this wicked and wanton set of infidelity and cruelty inexplicable.' Tho writer states that the Indians “struck off the hand that Fed them, and, Jcel liko smote the benefactor of their race.1*It is staled as soon a3 grass is sufficiently advanced to sustain horse?, 1,000 troops will take the field against these Indians, and Chastise them so that they will learn tho miseries of retribution upon treachery and murder.The victim of this cruel act is tho son of Hon. Henry Dodge, tho venerable and distioguished ex-Senator from Wisconsin.
