Lon nie Mims Pastor, Rock of Ages Baptist Church of Annona, Texas, held their annual Ushers Day Program. The special guest Church was Emanuel Baptist Church. Rev. Lonnie Mims was the guest speaker. Many Area Churches at tended the program and helped make the program a success. Mrs. Emma J. Wooten is a patient in General Hospital, in Clarksville. Mr. Lavert Hughes of St. Louis, Mo. is in the City visiting his mother, Mrs. Callie Sue Hughes. Rev. Curtis Sims of Kan sas City, Mo. was in the City, he visited his sisters’ family, Mr. and Mrs. Watson San ders, and his brother family, Mr. and Mrs. George Sims also relatives and friends. Worshipful Master W.. Potts Sr., Matron Mrs. W.D. Potts, II (Gratie) and Mrs. Bessie Forte attended the 15th Annual Northeast Re gional meeting of District 1-2-8. Most Worshipful Prince Hall Lodge of Texas and Jurisdiction (PHA) Ma sonic Grand Chapter (order of Eastern Stars) of Texas and Jurisdiction (APHA). Grand High Court Heories of Jericho of Texas and Juris diction (PhA). This session was held in Denison, Texas at the Eisenhower Auditor ium, Denison Senior High School. They reported a very pro fitable session. The Chivers Family Mr. and Mrs. Jewel Chi vers, Juanita, Angela were special guest at an April Celebration held in Texar kana, Ark, “The April Heritage Cele bration’. Te Chairperson of the Celebration was Mrs. Arcabella Chivers Perry, a native of Red River County. The Red River County Chivers, were represented by Loyd Graves, who re sponded to the invocation with The Lord's Prayer. 1. Loyd represented Tracy Chivers who was out of the County with the DECA Class. The Chivers were also represented by Mrs. Patri cia Ratliff of Kansas City, Mo. Daughter of Mrs. Mamie Chivers. Patricia gave 2 numbers on Program: Dramatic Reading, “The Creation Instrumental (Organ) solo. The Heritage Program was held in Texarkana Ark, at the Cannon Baptist Church. Mrs. Mamie Chivers and daughter Patricia made a short stop in Clarksville in Route home, Monday. The Clock Sprun forward with daylight savings time. Mrs. Samuel Phil lips Sr. of DeKalb, Missippi, made a short stop en route to Witchita, Kansas, and left teir son Dread with his Sister Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Ricks. On their return to DeKalb, Missippi they visited with sister Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Ricks, their children Sonya and Samuel II. They also visited their Aunts, Rev. and Mrs. O. Coleman and Mr. and Mrs. A. Lewis and Mrs. Louise Phillips. Rev. Samuel Phillips is a native of Red River County attened Cheatham High School. Presently is Pastor of The Dekalk Church of Christ in Dekalk, Mississippi. Mrs. Linda Ogden Execu tive Director of Elderberry Center attended the area Agency on aging Area Plan at the First National Bank in Mt. Pleasant, Texas, April 23, 1982. The purpose of the meeting was to get input from the different COG sponsored A gencies to see what pro grams the Community think is needed most. Nutrition and transporta tion was voted top priority at this meeting. Votes from the Mt. Plea sant meeting and Votes from the public hearing in Naples will be added together and from the total votes, Agency on Aging will determine what first 10 most needed programs will be funded. Others attending the meeting from Red River County were Mrs. Eula Pemberton, Detroit, Texas, Mrs. Eula Foreman, Clarks ville, Texas and Mrs. Shirley Cherry, Experience Unlimi ted Coordinator and out reach worker. A Volunteer’s Workshop was held April 21, 1982 at the Detroit Nutrition Center, at 1:00 p.m. The Workshop was given by the County Extension Office under the direction of Mrs. Bonnie Kyles and Miss Brenda Hunter. A game was played by Volunteers to see on many of the difference spices they could name by smelling and seeing. Mrs. Patterson won the prize by guessing 8 right out of 9. Mrs. Kyles gave informa tion on how to serve food properly, untensils that can be used for certain foods, and how to store left over food properly. Attending the meeting were: Ed Dickerson chairman; Jack Holt; Co-chairman; Mrs. Linda Ogden and Mrs. Shirley Cherry Secretary. City em ployees present: James Pryor, City Manager; Charles Young. COG employees present were Gary Marrs, Rehabili tation specialist and Bob Jones. S ee North East Texas Divison of Red Cross. Not since Hurrican Camille in 1969 has the Red Cross planned such a large home repair and rebuilding program as a result of the devastating tornadoes that struck Northeast Texas and Southeast Oklahoma April 2. Camille, which involved 73,857 families, prompte Red Cross to rebuil 226 homes. After the recent tornado, which affected more than 1800 families, Red Cross will active in rebuilding over 150 homes and repairing many others. Red Cross attributes the need for such a large rebuilding program to the fact that the majority of the affected homeowners were uninsured, with low in comes, no resources and over the age of 62. ‘Now that the Red Cross is completing its emergency phase of disaster relief wh ich includes food, clothing, shelter, temporary home repairs and related medical needs, we are estimating an additional one and one half million dollars to be so spent assisting with home rebuilding, extended repairs, some home fur nishings and other needs.” said John Crafton, Director of Red Cross relief efforts. Red Cross commitments to date amount to $262,501.00 To date nearly 40,000 meals have been provided by Red Cross volunteers to those affected and to emergency workers in volved with debris clearan ce. Red Cross is continuing to work closely with Federal Government agencies in the area, according to Brady Fisher, Chairman for the Lamar County Red Cross Chapter. The Red Cross is accepting contributions for the relief effort. Contributions should be sent to local Red Cross chapters and earmarked “tornado relief”.
