New Los Lunas budget needs some revisingThe Village of Los Lunas derided Tuesday night that parts of its proposed budget needs revising before it is presented to the state Department of Finance on June 7.Clerk treasurer Augustin Archuleta said he was taKmg the budget to SantaFe todav for review.*This year the council is asking for $5,042 less than last year. This decrease is the result of the dropping of the Metro Squad and the near rompletior of Daniel Fernandez Park.Last year the council asked for a budget of $360,819, but the actual budget, estimated to the end of this fiscal year, was $413,566. For next year's budget they are asking for $355,777.The single largest budget increase is for the police department. Archuleta explained this by saying that several portions of Eastern Valencia County may be annexed by the Village this summer, so the budget is figured with two newpolicemen's salaries. Another factor adding to the increase, Archuleta said, is that one of the current policemen is funded by the federal government but the Village must pay his salary next year. In addition, a secretary has recently been added and there is a proposal to raise police salaries by about 5 percent.Last year the council asked for $84,599 for the police budget and this year is asking for $119,013.Archuleta said he would have the budget ready for publication by the end of the week or early next week.
