3 Templars grab victories at BYU InvitationalSeniors Brian Hatch, Mark Aston and Jim Bralthwaite accomplished as seniors what they did as juniors at the BYU Invitational Tennis Tournament. They won the doubles and singles championships respectively. This Is one of the few times a school has even won back to back In this meet in both singles and doubles with the same boys playing or otherwise.The road to victory was not easy in either case. Bralthwaite defeated an opponet from Dug-way In the opening round. The last three matches were played on Saturday due to rain on Friday. In order, he then defeatedMark Suelberg of Grantsville 8-6; Stan Stewart of Dixie 7-5, 6-2; and David Wilkey of Juab in the championship round. This play encompassed a period of about four hours. A reliable volley paved the way to all of the wins.Hatch and Aston won in the opener from Cedar City's Thompson and Chatterly 8-3. In the next match they defeated Edwards and Madsen of Wasatch High School 8-1. In high caliber action they were aggressive in downing a strong double's team of Grantsville, Scott Williams and Jack Nelson 8-6, 7-6. The final victory was over Ken Sperry andRex Wilkey of Juab 7-5, 6-1. Traditional gold medals with a Cougar super-imposed were awarded to the three players.Last week MHS played and defeated North Sanpete in tennis 7-0. The results were: No. 1 singles - Jim ] defeated Lamar Dyches 6-0, 6-0; No. 2 singles - Brian Hatch over Terry Irons 6-2, 6-3; No. 3 singles — Reed Hatch defeated Randy Cox 6-3, 6-2; No. 1 doubles — Mark Aston and Eric Christensen defeated Terry Irons and Lamar Dyches 6-3, 6-1; No. 2 doubles - Hal Stott and Charles Cox defeated Mike Rosenloff and Kevin Wilkey 5-2, 3-6, 9-7.
