COURTENAY, April 26.—The fourth annual celebration of St. George's Day and Shakespeare's birthday was celebrated at the Elk Hotel, Comox, on Monday evening. An excellent dinner including typically English dishes was provided by the manage ment and was greatly enjoyed by the large number present, as was a capital programme of toasts and musical selections. Lt-Col. Chas. W Villiers was chairman on this occas ion, which was perhaps the most en joyable St. George's Day anniversary yet celebrated in the district. The programme was as follows: The King, Lt.-Col. C. W. Villiers; the Empire, Mr. Ben Hughes; Canada, Major A. M. Hilton and responded to by Mr. Hugh Stewart and Mr. D. R. MacDonald. The toast to England was ably proposed by Mr. G. Stubbs, Mr. Sidney D'Esterre replying, The Ladies was proposed by Mr. 8. Ab rams and responded to by Mrs. Theed Pearse. The musical programme included “Song of the Open Air” by Mr. G. A. Kirk Shawl dance by Miss Sheila Allard; “Devonshire Dialect” by Mr. H. S. Baker; Cherry Ripe by Mrs. Ben Hughes; “O Canada by the assembly; “My Old Dutch” by Mr. G. P. Osler; “Larboard Watch duet by Rev. J. Hobbins and Mr. G. Har wood; “Land of Hope and Glory by Mrs. B. Harvey. The Linger-Longer Club will hold a meeting in the Union Hotel at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May $rd,
