RECTOR EXCOMMUNICATES DR. b. S. dOX. WHO WILL TAKE MATTER TO BISHOP. The Yestryman on the Contrary, Says He Will Continue to Serve and Do His Duty. The Episcopal church trouble that had begun to heel was again opened yesterday morning by Dr Hartley, Who had announced Saturday that a message of importance would be de lvered. ‘ His important message developed to be the excommunication of Dr J. S. Joy. Notwithstanding the urgent re quest for a large attendance, actual count developed thirty-five present at the congregation. Mr. Hartley took note, of the email turn-out and explained that he understood the cause to be that same objected for him, and others stayed away because of the recent trouble in the church. it is probable that both causes were instrumentsl. The Statesman is informed that one member of the vestrr had taken upon himself the raising of money by special subscription to continue the expenses of the church during Dr. Hartley's stay here, but owing to this new torn of affairs, his work wil now be dropped, which leaves the certainty of revenue to malptais the rector’s salary and other expenss es doubtful. As to the authority of the rector to excommunicate a member of the church, there is much doubt, and Dr. Jor intents to take the matter be fore the bishop. The Statesman is Informed that it is wholly a matter for the bishop to determine, and all the rector can do is to refuse the communicant the privilege of com munion. This action is, of course, brought on through the recent trouble in the church which it is evident some do not wish to “blow over” or die out, and witle many who are not sypre pathisers with the rector, are will ing to do all posible to close up the trench that has been made among the membership and wiild threatens to disrupt the church, al thoughe this will not ansist in da ingee nor Increase the desire on the part of those Interested, to continue their efforts. One member of the vestry states the has been brought to believe that when the hour for Dr. Hartley’s de parture arrives, the membership is be no broken up that to contin ue the church will be dificult if not out of the question, if the rector does not discontinue what has proven to be destructive tactics. We will leave the Episcopal church in the Fama condidion, the Christian church: to Todlay,
