Pioneer Officer of the Hudson's Say Company Joins the Great Majority. Gilbert Spencer Hackland, better known as Capt. Hackland, died at his daughter’s residence, 411 Graham av enue, on Saturday evening. Deceas ed has been ailing for some time. He came to the city about two weeks ago for medical treatment but his condi tion was such that recovery could not be hoped for and members of the fam ily were summoned to his death-bed. The late Capt. Hackland was a re tired officer of the Hudson's Bay com pany, he having spent most of his life in the service of that company in Western Canada. He came to the country in the early days by way of York Factory and continued in the Hudson's Bay company’s service until his retirement, when he took up resi dence at Oak Point, on Lake Mani toba. Deceased was 75 years of age and leaves a large family. Mrs. Angus Sutherland, of 411 Graham avenue, in this city, is a daughter. The funeral will take place on Tuesday to Kil donan.
