A total of 640 persons attend ed the joint spring camporee of Fairfield and Hocking County Boy Scouts at Camp Ki-Y-Ro near Lancaster last weekend. “Show and Do’ was the camporee theme, with each un it displaying scoutcraft or scout ing skills. At Saturday night’s campfire, approximately 850 scouts, lead ers and parents saw Indian dances performed by the Tarhe (Fairfield) Chapter dance team of the Order of the Arrow. A tapping-out ceremony of the Order of the Arrow, the Boy Scout honor campers’ brother hood, followed. Hocking Countians tapped were: Mark Peycke, Troop 99; Ricky Carter, Troop 238; Jim Trowbridge, Frank Rydzewski and Jim Jurgensmier, Troop 251; Terry Hawk, Larry Hol comb, Ross Wolfe and Dick Turner, Troop 452; Ronald Snouffer, Troop 499, and Dick Fox, Ed Fickel, Russ Forsythe and Ed Sette of Explorer Post 37. Awards were presented by Hocking District Chairman George Crow at the close of the ceremony. Troop 39% of Gore, L. D. Har ris, scoutmaster, won the best camper’s award and the best “Show and Do’ display award. The award for best attendance went to Troop 239, Hal Bailey, scoutmaster. Explorer Post 37, with Ed Sette as advisor, won an award for fitness and field events. The Hocking District had 135 scouts and 25 adult leaders at the camporee. Explorer posts in the Hock ing and Fairfield Districts had separate activities and per formed needed services for Boy Scout troops and leaders such as directing traffic, set ting up camps and camp site inspections. Logan Explorer Post 37 won the district sports trophy for athletic competition, which in cluded a track meet and football games. Post 37 swept the first three places in 100, 220 and 440-yard dashes, shot put and won the 440 and 88-yard relays. The Logan post also took second and third in the 880-yard run, and first and third in the broad jump. The locals also won the football competition. A trophy will be presented to President David Yaw and Ed Sette, advisor, at the district leaders banquet to be held May 5 at Shaw’s Restaurant, Lan caster.
