‘I've found the students treat me just as nice as I treat them, said Louie, smiling across the counter of his white lunch wagon, which, since it first made its appearance in 19164, has become another of these Cornell traditions. Every night, just as inevit ably as rain in Ithaca, Louie's wagon may be seen, parked in front of Ris ley Hall, serving as a moveable store for the student needs, and supplying everything from hot dogs to penny matches. “I've never had any trouble and no one has ever tried to get rough or wreck the wagon,” he con tinued. They're all honest, too. When ever I let them buy on credit I can count on seeing them come back with a smile and pay what they owe.” When asked what the students pre ferred in the way of food, Louie re plied that bacon sandwiches were the most popular, with Canadian bacon and the regular kind running about on a par. Hamburgers also rate well, he admitted. “I only serve the stu dents. Every night I bring the wagon up here about eight o'clock and stay until around twelve. The weather doesn't bother me any. Yes, things seem to be better this year—I guess the depression's over. Besides, it's spring and business always picks up then.” All the students now are more civilized than they used to be,” Louie said, “but when I first started 20 years ago they sure were good spenders!” With a sly grin, he added that he thought the coeds were improving, but refused to go into detail on the subject “Sure, I like parking my wagon by the girls’ dorms—they're food customers.” Born in Greece, Louie came to this country when he was very young. “Don't bother about my last name, the students won't know who you're talking about, just call me Louie, he beamed. “I've been doing this steady since the war, when I stopped for a while and joined the army,” he pointed to the license inside the wagon “No, I'm not tired of it. I couldn't get along without seeing the young People around. As for retiring, I guess T's keep on here until I get my pension from the student. They From out of the night, interrupting Louie’s dissertation, came a cheerful male voice, Hey Louie, how's about 4 Canadian bacon sandwich on credit, huh?”
