‘The Federal Grand Jury Find Tene Bile Against Spurr and Vorterfeld. The United States Grand Jury, after aploding more than a week if investigating the affairs of the Com mercial National Beak in Nashville, bias returned Indictments Agather President M. A. Boure and Cashier Frank Porterfeld gud wrap against George A. Dazey, of the commission ‘dem of Dobbins and Davey. ‘The in strument aganet Porterfield and Dazey julatly 14 as follown: “Frank Porterfeld and George A. Dazey—On and before March 17, 1888, Frank Porterfield was Cashier of the Joumerciat Bank, of Nashville, George A. Dazey and J.P. Dobbine, vartvera in the fun of Dobbins D azey, were customers of said bank, Porterfield, Dazey, and others one known to the Jury were engaged in the business of dealing on cotton fue tures on a margin. ‘These personal designedly and wilfully entered into teoumaphecy to convert the funds of wald Dauk with the iatent to injure and defraud its stockholders and de valiers. In furtherance of this obj Jest Cazey executed four dratte wrongfully and unlawfully. ‘Three of them were on Joan Munroe Co., of New York, in sums of $35 000 $42, 000 and $40,000. One drat for $25,000 was in Latham, Alexander Co. New York. The total amount of all being $142,000, These were received and credited to Dobbins Dewey by Porterfeld without the knowledge or conseut of the directors of the bank, and without collateral or security. When this was done both P:eterfield and Davey knew that Dobbing Davey had no such credit with the tiro deawe on, and were in debt to the Commercial National Bank. ‘Wiese deatta were deposited to the credit of Dobbins Doezey and Davey's cheeks to the full amount of $142,000 of Coereabouts so knowledged and robid by the bank, ‘where drafts were sent to New York once about February 27, all were protested an d not being good!
