Arne Sorlein Elected Man ager; E R. Haines Heads Business Committee (Special to the Times-Journal.) Decorah, Ia., April 26.—About 40 Decorah baseball fans gathered at a meeting this week for the purpose of perfecting a permanent baseball organization. E. R. Haines presid ed at the meeting. Arne Sorlien, claimed to be one of the best semi-pro pitchers in northeastern Iowa, was chosen as player manager of the team for the season. He will have full charge of the players. The second act of the meeting was to get a business staff. The tempor ary committee, which was appointed some time ago to get the organiza tion started, was made permanent and will have charge of the business end of the ball team this year. This committee is composed of E. R., Haines, chairman; Don Haugen, Ben McGreavy, Ed, Herwig and Sever Ol son. After practicing for three days, Manager Sorlien took his nine over to Luther college to work out against Coach Reques’ outfit. They played six innings and the score stood 3 to 2 in Luther's favor. Man ager Sorlien worked Hans Anderson on the mound during the first three innings of the game and he held the collegians to one blow. In the last three rounds Sorlien went on the slab and allowed but one hit. This was accomplished against such slug gers as Orwell, Burkeland, Peterson and Roddy. Had the independent team been limbered up enough to have played errorless ball the Luth er nine would not have scored. Outlook Bright: The outlook for the Decorah team is bright and business, professional and laboring men alike are doing what they can to boost the club. The executive committee is eager to have the lady fans of the community take an interest in the team. It is the first time in the history of De corah that an all-home talent team has represented the city and every one appears anxious to have it go big. The management of the club is ready to hear from any teams in their class who wish to engage games. The management can be reached by writing to E. R. Haines.
