Harvey Smith, who died inCedar Falls on Lhe Ititli tiny of April, 191*;. was born in Carlisle1, comity, Pennsylvania, January 14th, 1834. .At tlie age of 17 he came to Illinois where he followed the profession of school teaching. In 18HO lie came to Iowa where lie eon tinned teaching for several yours residing, on his farm near Parkersburg in Hu tier county. About twenty years ago he moved to Cedar Falls where he has since resided, his late residence being 422 Iowa street. At the age c£ 21, or in the year IS55, he was married to Ellen Jameremi, who preceded her husband five year* to the better land.To this couple were born oiglit children, five of whom are now living: David dying in Infancy, Alisa Maggie and Mrs. Charles Campbell of Waterloo died after having grown ,.tr womanhood. There still remains Airs. E. J. McKee, Mrs. John Bicker of Council Grove, Kansas; Frank of St. Ixmis, Missouri; Airs. John Yo tinker and Harvey Ralph of SI loamSprings, Arkansas. Air. Smith also^ has one brother still living at Metropolis, Illinois.Air. Smith for many years was n member of the Methodist Episcopal church, but prior to his death, about one year, he was confined to his bed with a cancerous trouble where histhree daughters now living, tenderlycaved for him.He was perfectly willing, however, to die and prayed almost daily for ' relief from his pain. Air. Smith was | one of the most honorable and up-i right citizens that over lived in this! locality.
