Eckhardt, vice president and local manager of Batterson’s, said officers of the firm made the decision this week to terminate operation of the store which has an 87-year history- in Muscatine.A “going out of business” advertisement will be published in Thursday’s Journal, Eckhardt said. No definite closing date has been established as yet. This win depend on the length of time needed to close-out the merchandise in the Batterson building at 219 E. 2nd St,“This has beea a difficult decision to make ” Eckhardt said. ‘‘Many of our 35 employees have been with Batterson’s for 20 to 30 years.
