Pipers even series in overtime(NEW ORLEANS lt;UPI— Charlie Williams barely broke into double figures Thursday night, but when he did, his 10th point—a free throw with one second left in overtime—gave the Pittsburgh Pipers a 106-105 win over the New Orleans Buccaneers.Williams’ 10 points were notmuch compared to teammate Connie Hawkins’ 4? points. But that one free throw knotted the best-of-seven American Basketball Association championship playoffs at two games each.The two teams meet again Saturday night in Pittsburgh.“We were fortunate to get into overtime,” New Orleans Coach Babe McCarthy said.nAnd it is really tough to lose one with a foul, but it goes to show how a foul can hurt.”The Bucs got into the overtime on a last second three-point basket by Larry Brown which tied the score at 98-98.The Buccaneers had led the entire game until Chico Vaughn hit a jump shot to tie it 94-94 with 3:20 remaining in thegame. Vaugh then hit a free throw and Williams a 15-foot jumper to take the lead 98-95 with 1:15 reamining.New Orleans brought the ball down court and passed off to Brown who canned a 26-foot, three pointer, shot at the buzzer.Four of the Buc starters got into foul trouble late in the fourth period that allowed the charging Pipers to come on strong.Hawkins led all scorers with 47 points, followed by Tom Washington with 18.James Jones led New Orleans with 23 points.
