Retired Pastor i Goes to Reward;Well Known Minister Buried I If ere Last Monday.Reverend Abraham Hender- j son Bates aged 81 who died lt;last Sunday morning in Hen- ] dersonville, was buried Mon- j day afternoon in Tryon, the lt;Reverend W. A. Black officiat- j ing. tMr. Bates was born in Jacksonville, Illinois, December ] 30th., 1842. He was the son of i the Reverend Joseph H. Bates, a Presbyterian minister. He is survived by his widow Mrs. Laura S. Bates, a brother, M. C. i ates of Galesburg, Illinois, and . a sister Mrs. Leland Breeze of Pomona, California.The deceased was, for forty eight years, a minister inactive work in the Presbyterian | church, serving several prominent churches in the Middle West, one in California and one in Florida. Due to ill health, i Mr. Bates recently resigned from active church work and 1 fpr the past year has been liv- * ing in Tryon. His health fail- 1 ! ing rapidly in the last twoweeks, he was finally removed lt;to a hospital in Henderson iwhere he died. Shortly before 1his death he made the request lt;that his body be interred in the Tryon cemetery. lt;He was the author of several ] books, among these a book of * poems. 1
