Mrs. Scott Durand of Crab Tree Farm is Offered $16, 000 by the State. SHE SAYS IT IS NOT ENOUGH Men Who Gave Supplies, and Guards at Time of Outbreak Are to Receive Pay. Waukegan, April 23. Of the sum of $53,131.11 appropriat ed by the legislature for damages and expenses incurred on account of quarantine and foot and mouth dis ease, $3,834.85 has been ordered put to Lake county men by a sub-commit tee of the committee on appropria tions of the legislature. The subcommittee, composed of Representative C. H. Young, who is chairman of the committee, John Lynch and M. L. Igoe, met at the Ho tel ‘Washburn in Waukegan at 10 o'clock this mornin at which time they O. K.’d the following claims of Lake county citizens. J. E. Barrett, Prairie View, supplies $ 75.00 H. F. The smallest claim allowed was that of the First National Bank of Libertyville, amounting to $225. This claim was for pastare. Robert Grice, a deputy sheriff, was allowed close to $200. He served as a guard at the Crab Tree Farm when Mrs. Durand’s cattle were slaughter ed. Representative Thomas Graham and J. H. Vickers of Harvard, attend ed the committee meeting today and vouched for the claims presented by people of this district. It became known today that the state had offered to settle with Mrs. Scott Durand of Crab Tree Farm, for $16,000, but that she had refused this settlement. “Not enough,” was Mrs. Durand's excuse. Before she can re ceive a larger sum a special act of the legislature must be taken. The auditor of public accounts has Proper vouchers, is ‘ssue hhe war been authorized upon presentation of rants upon the state treasurer for the claims allowed at Waukegan to day, and the state treasurer has been directed to pay the same out of any money in the state treasury not oth erwise appropriated. The Antioch Lumber Company has been incorporated, capital of $25,000. Incorporators: Conrad Buschman, Sophia Buschman and Herbert Vos.
