W. H. Harbor Lets Contract For New Fire Proof Building To Replace One Recently Burned. Henderson, Iowa, April 24. W. H. Harbor has let the contract for a new elevator to replace the one he lost by fire a short time ago, to R. M. Van Ness Construction Company of Omaha who have already begun work on the foundation. This is the same company that built his other elevator and he has great confidence in them. The new building is to be as nearly fireproof as can be and thoroughly modern in every particu lar. It will be operated by electrici ty and will be completed in time for the new crop. BE. E. McVay the Emerson under taker has put in a branch at the Workman hardware and furniture, store and will answer calls from that place or Emerson. George Wilson has finished the new addition to his garage and mov ed his machine shops into it. It makes him a nice work room. Mrs. Lizzie Wright was a passen ger for Carson Saturday evening re turning home after spending several weeks at the home of her niece Mrs. Victor Norton. Mrs. J. . Tibbies and Mrs. Hol lace Durland of Macedonia, and Mrs. W. H. Kilgore of Oakland, were vis iting relatives in our city last Sun day. J. R. Brown returned home Saat urday from Carson, near which he had been visiting his daughter Mrs. Jno. Walker. Mrs. Henry Hansen and daughter Rosalie are visiting at the J. W. Davis home this week. Oscar Hertz from Malvern is the new clerk in Sturgeon's store, her having come up last week to take the place of Melville Bank who left re cently to join the navy. Mrs. Nora Gravett and daughter Ada and Mrs. Lois Rinehart were Hastings visitors between trains Thursday. Mrs. Walter Esterquist of Red Oak spent a number of days last week at the J. G. Loving home. Mr. Hster quist. drove up in the car Saturday evening, and visited until Sunday evening, when they returned home. The many friends of M. F. Dilley will be sorry to learn that his health has been quite poorly the past few weeks. Last week he and his son Charles went to Omaha where he re ceived treatment at the Presbyter ian hospital. They came out to the Charles Dilley home on Thursday, where he spent the remainder of the week. A. H. Harbor was driving a new Ford last Sunday, which he pur chased last week from the Red Oak Auto Company, to take the place of the other new one, which was de stroyed in their recent elevator fire. Erin Arnold came in last week from Knoxville, Ia., where he had spent the winter. He is again plying his trade of brick mason and plast erer. Mrs. Jesse Loving and son Eliwyn spent Wednesday of last week with relatives and friends in Macedonia, Oscar Braden came in Saturday from their new home in Maryville, Mo., for an over Sunday visit and to get his automobile, which he left here when they moved, waiting for better roads. Miss Susan Saar spent part of last week in Glenwood, where she was the guest of Miss Virginia Craig. Mrs. Rose Plumb is spending this week down at the Mark Eaton home near Emerson, where she is caring for Mrs. Haton and baby boy which arrived in their home recently. Mrs. §. M. Woods came home last week from Harlan where she had spent the past few weeks visiting relatives there and at Council Bluffs. Herbert Buck and A. 0. Harney were looking after business affairs in Omaha on Monday. The home of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Steiner living south of town, was gladdened last week by the arrival of a fine baby boy. Mrs. E. M. Duke and daughter Iva went out to the Oscarr Asell home last Saturday evening for an over Sunday visit. Sam Owens received word last: Saturday of the death of his brother Richard Owens, who has bean eth ically ill the past several days with pneumonia, in the Jennie Edmund son Hospital at Council Bluffs. The body was shipped to Carson, where funeral serviced were held on ‘tues day. . . . Mrs. Bacon, accompanied by her daughter and son of Carson spent Wednesday of last’ week at the home of the former's sister Mrs. J. A. Bell. Nelson James came in, last’ week from his home in the west for a few weeks stay in our vicinity. He is now assisting L. W..Triplett, with some work, out on the farm. . . Mr. and Mrs. John. Bryant’ and children autoed over from Grant last Sunday to spent the day at the Jacob Coppock home. Miss Elizabeth Phillips took her room of pupils to the woods last Monday afternoon where the time was very pleasantly’ spent in gather ing wild flowers.and toasting marsh mallows. Miss Maude Gain is now employed in the Charles Parks home where she is assisting with the housework and also working in the telephone office a part of the time. — Mrs. J. 8. Work man home here last Sunday, Gilbert Carlson was down from Carson Sunday upending the day with relatives and friends, Miss Lida Henry returned to her home near Traynor Saturday after an extended visit here at the home for her aunt Mrs. Mina LaHue. Mrs. Jake Houser and children were down from their home near Wheeler's Grove last Sunday visiting Mrs. Mirra Dye and children. Mrs. Sylvia Johnson was a Mace donia visitor Saturday afternoon.
