IU J'f per cent. 01 goou guano should dissolve iu a hot solution of caustic potash, withastioor smell of ammonia.—Scientific Ammcn,Embalmiso.—Wo called on Monday at the residence of Mr. Casanave, No. 87, Mania Mrm, for* the purpose of examining the Iwdy of a »Wea»^| gentleman, which had been subjected totheextr*. ordinary embalming process discovered bv Dr Holmes, of New York, and of which Mr. Caj»m»e is the sole agent for Louisiana. The corpse «« that of n young physician from Pennsylvania, who died in this city on the tith inst., of puimonnrr «*,. sumption, as attested by the certificate of Dr. Ce-nas. For fifteen days the body Imd reposed in n ojH*n coffin, not merely without the slighteit ar. pearance of decomposition, hut without the kait perceptible alteration of the features, andtbmlote-iv free fiotn any odor whatever. To the cy« th« corpse seemed to be that of one who had just mr-rendered life, and we were assured by Mr. Can-nave, that with the exception of a gradual sharp, cuing of the features, produced by the evaporation of the fluids in the body, it would remain unchang-d for an indefinite period. Mr. Casanare was drti-rous of keeping the l*ody some months, in order more conclusively to test the excellence of the embalming process, but had received an order frain the friends of the deceased in Pennsylvania, requiring him to send it on immediately. What is most wonderful ulout this discovery is, that no mutilation of the corpse La required. Uih-er systems of embalrnent necessitate the evisceration of the body, and the removal of the ii;u nul organs. Lly l»r. llohues' plan ull that is to be done is to make a slight incision in one of the arms, lay bare the radial artery, and inject the embalming fluid by it through the various blood r esse la. his the work of n few minutes, is completed at once, and cfTcCtually preserves the subject from the influences of beat, air and moisture. Decay is rendered utterly impossible, and there is every reason to believe that Uidies thus prepared may fie placed in an open case, and will remain unaltered for ngw.Persons desirous of transporting to a distance the mortal remains of their deceased friends, may no* avail theni*-Ives of this admirable and expedition* process. It is one of the latest and m«wt valuable contributions which science has rendered to humanity.— .V. 0. Her
