Commissioner Berne A. Parke, of the Department of Agriculture and Markets announced that the county and town agricultural fair associa tions receiving state aid paid out $434,143.96 at the fairs held in 1928. Three hundred and seventy-five thousand dollars have been appropri ated by the state of New York to re imburse the societies for premiums paid for the promotion of agricul ture and of domestic arts, for the promotion of education, along agri cultural lines, and for the promotion of the breeding of cattle, sheep, poul try, swine, horses and other domestic animals. Thirty-one societies received the maximum of $6,000, and the balance is divided in proportion to the amount paid in premiums by the society. In 1928 the law was amended increasing state aid from $250,000 to $375,000 and raising the maximum to be paid any one society from $4,000 to $6, 000. In a few days the checks will be forwarded to the treasurer of ‘the societies entitled to participate in this distribution. The following so cieties of the North Country have compled with the requirements to share in the ‘fund: Cape ‘Vincent Agricultural Society, $4,774.25; Jef ferson Co. Agricultural Society, $6, 000; Franklin Co. Agricultural So ciety, $6,000; Lewis Co. Agricultural Society, $5,842.61; Boonville Fair As sociation, $4,210.25; Sandy Creek, Richland, Orwell Boylston Agri cultural Society, $6,000; St. Lawrence Co. Agricultural Society, $3,994.50; Gouverneur Agricultural Mechani cal Society, $6,000.
