(Taithe Editor.) Dear Sir.—on Thuysday the 12th of April there was a considerable rush for the ice 48 many seals were report ed seen and Many men left their homes very early in the morning and went out. Some succeeded, while other found it difficult as a heavy sea was running and the ice was, much, smash ed up. Some boats secured a few seals but the going was very difficult and the heavy sea made landing on the headlands very dangerous. The men did not get in before late In the even ing, while one boat’s crew consisting of six men did not get in all night. On Friday morning they were still out on the ice but there seemed no pos sible way of getting the men as a mountainous sea was still running, and the ice so small that no man could walk on it. But by the pluck of Isaac Young and several more companions they launched Mr. Young's small boat and proceeded at the risk of their lives across Burnt Island Tickle and rescued the men from their perilous position, which might have resulted in the loss of six of our hardy toilets. Every year these things are happen ing. A telephone should be built to the lighthouse on Long Point. People would then be able to get a report from the lighthouse by the telephone, while it takes the lighthouse keeper quite a long time to get a message three miles. All of this trouble may be avoided, and when there were men in danger people could get to their res cue quickly and may save them from a watery grave. Hoping before ano ther year we shall be blessed with a telephone to the lighthouse and wish ing the Union and President every SUCCESS ONE INTERESTED. Twiilingate, April lth, 1919,
