Purchasing land, he commenced to hew out a home ior himself. On January 22, 1858, he was married to Miss Mary j Ingram, j daughter of Jas. Ingram, Esq., of i the same township. Their family numbered nine children, three sons and six daughters, of whom one son, William A., the eldest of the family, and three daughters still survive. Though the work of pioneering was an uphill task, Mr. Ellis and his life companion came into possession of a comfortable home.Iu the early days regular religious services were conducted in the com. munity by the church of England alone. Occasionally a Methodist preacher from a distant mission paid a visit, and later, about 1858, Rev. J. A. Dowler, was sent to what was afterwards called the Bobcaygeon mission. This man of God was the pioneer of Methodism in the north its and ministrations Bro. Ellis was converted and joined the church. Subsequently he was appointed to the offices of Clas6 Leader and S. S. Superintendent. Failing health compelled him to give up the latter of-itce, but he still remained the Class Leader at the Bethel appointment, He was also a trustee of the church. Mrs. Ellis was converted about:the same time as her husband and they were permitted to witness the conversion of their children, who have become active workers in the church. Mr. Ellis was a public school trustee and a township councillor for many years. From 1876 to 1905 he was a Justice of the Peace. He has been an almost constant reader of the Christian Guardian. The funeral took place on March 30th to Fenelor* Falls cemetery.Christian Guardian—In the person of Mr. Alexander Ellis there passed a way on March 28th, one of the earliest Methodist of Bobcaygeon circuit, Bethel appointment. Mr. Ellis was born in the County of Fermanagh, Ireland, on March 17, 1828.
