If that were so, they were engaged in a work of prodigious difficulty. They had a refractory class’of problems to deni with, but it seemed to him that at least they would be able to prove the existence of an outsido world.There was a region not open indeed to experimental observation in tho same way that the more familiar regions of the material world were open, but fromwhich some information could be gleiiaed,and if they could not as the result of their exertions - discover what laws these strange phenomena obeyed, it would at all events be something to have shown as a matter of ascertained fact that there wefo things in heaven; and oh earth which wet© beyond tho philosophy of even the mott scientific.
