On Friday night, of last week, the Clay City Dragialie Company gave an introductory performance to the most select audience of rep resentative citizens that has ever resembled at the Opera House in this place. To say that the entertain ment was such a g. would reflect credit upon most of the traveling troupes who scour the country with sounds of trumpets and glowing posters, is not bangling or misrepresentation. From the beginning to the close, the play was presented in a manner to interest, please and auvage. Each member is entitled to due credit, but, as with all organizations of a like character, a few excelled in the imitation of characters repre sented. The play, a comedy-drama, entitled “A Soldier of Fortune,” is somewhat dificult for beginners to master, but our home troupe have acted wisely in allotting the vari ous parte. While the participants are not presumed to be faultless in all pointehat are necegsary tn con stitute first-class performers, they have good reason to feek proud of their first effort. We are told that the company will probably visit some of our neighboring towne at an early day, and the reporter will therefore assume the responsibility of not only commending the troupe as worthy of liberal patronage, but also of introduceding each individual member as being entitled to confi dence and respect. The receipts of the evening approximated the en couraging sum of $50, and while A greater portion of that amount goes to defray expenses of costumes, etc, the members are very well pleased with the encouragement they received.
