FAMILY RECIPE GETS A KICKSTARTERCindy Arlantico’s hot chili oil has always boon in high-demand among family and friends.“You can use it on just about anything, Arlantico said. “We put it on macaroni and cheese and pizza and rice and tacos and bur-ritos and salad dressing ... everything,Nicknamed motor oil” by her eldest son, the chili oil settles into two layers: a light-but-hot top layer and a thick, spicy “sludge” at the bottom. Brave eaters can stir up the settled spices for especially Fiery results.Arlantico and her husband, Reggie, dreamed of bringing the oil to store shelves for years, but other responsibilities took priority. After receiving praise and support from a Fullerton-based manufacturer, Heiden Foods, Arlantico decided to push the product to market under the name Red Hot Motor Oil.Using Kickstarter - a crowd-funding sen ice used by entrepreneurs and businesses to launch niche products - Arlantico began to market her chili oil.
