Ralph G. Ray Ralph G. Ray, = 2 at Monticello, died at 5:05 a.m. April 18, 2002, at his residence. He had been in ill health since law Born Feb. 21, 1934, in Elizabethtown, Ky., he was the son of Charles and Hattie Ray. His marriage was on May 22, 1988, in West Lafayette, to Linda Marie Cavanaugh, who survives. He worked for Lafayete Venetian Blind for 12 years, retiring in 1999. He also worked for the former General Battery and the Frankfort Middle School. Mr. Ray served in the U.S. Navy, where he reeived his G.E.D. He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, Lafayette. He enjoyed playing the steel guitar and had last played with the Junior Smith Band. His hobbies included music and fishing. Also surviving are three sons, Donald Ray and Joseph M. Ray, both of Frankfort, and Charles Ray of Ohio; two daughters, Linda Ford of Frankfort and Stacia Clemons of Lafayette; five sisters, Grace Vititoe, Thelma Bruner and Tillie Truax , all of Louisville, Ky., Rita Bryans of Derwood, Md., and Rose Wood of Houston, Texas; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one grandson, two brothers and three sisters. Private family services are planned. Abbott Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Margie Carol Miller Margie Carol Lence Miller, 78, of Bringhurst, formerly of Kokomo, died April 19, 2002, at home. She was born Aug. 16, 1923, in Kokomo, and graduated from Kokomo High School in 1941. Her marriage was to Denny Lee Miller II on March 2, 1945, in Kokomo, and he preceded her in death. Mrs. Miller worked for Stellite Metal Corp., Hooks Drug Store, and Delco Electronics in Kokomo, retiring in 1986. She was a member of First Friends Meeting and Joy Circle of Kokomo, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary, and Wives of U.S. Submarine Veterans, World War II. She had been a member of United Auto Workers. Surviving are two sons, Denny Lee Miller III of Lafayette, and Larry Leroy Miller of Indianapolis; two daughters, Jeanie LaVelle Krise of Frankton and Staci Lynn DeLon of Bringhurst; a brother, Richard Lee Sence of Melbourne, Fla.; a sister, Laura Jean Faulkner of Winter Haven, Fla.; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. April 28 at First Friends Meeting in Kokomo. Friends may call from 4-6 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph At Home Hospice Care or First Friends Meeting of Kokomo. James A. Helvie Services for James A. Helvie, 59 of Kountze, Texas, were held Saturday at the Flora United Methodist Church. Pastor Larry DeVos officiated and burial was in Maple Lawn Cemetery, Flora. He died at 7:30 p.m. April 16, 2002, at Houston VA Medical Facility, Houston, Texas. Born Nov. 8, 1942, in Flora, he was the son of James Walter and Katherine Dunkle Helvie. He was married on May 13, 1977, in Kountze, to Lona Justice, who survives. Mr. Helvie served in the U.S. Marine Corp. from November 1959 to November 1964. He had been employed as a truck driver for the past 25 years. He attended Flora schools and earned his GED in the Marines. Also surviving are four children, Lisa Helvie Rivers of Flora, James L. Schuhr of Birmingham, Ala., Frank Quintana of Kountze, and Chris Justice McPherson of Pittsburg; one brother, Charles Helvie of Flora; four sisters, Estella Everman of Logansport, Betty Johnson of Bringhurst, and Ann Byrum and Charlotte Hicks, both of Flora, and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, David Justice, and a sister, Virginia Downham Gibson. Reinke Funeral Home, Flora, was in charge of arrangements. Mark D. Simpson Mark D. Simpson, 33, of Kokomo, died at 10:40 a.m. April 21, 2002, in North Woods Village, Kokomo. Born Sept. 26, 1968, in Warsaw, he was the son of Douglas and Sandra Eckert Simpson. A 1987 graduate of Tippecanoe Valley High School, Mr. Simpson was employed as a sales representative by RCI in Indianapolis. Surviving with his parents of Flora are a brother, John Simpson of Kentland, and a sister, Melissa Crider of Indianapolis. A memorial service was held Tuesday at the Flora First Christian Church with Pastor Pamela Ditson- McCall, officiating. Intrnment was held, at Maple, Lawn Cemetery, Flora. April 29 Red Cross Bloodmobile Burlington Park Building Charles M. Maxwell Charles M. “Charlie” Maxwell, 71, of Flora, died at 6:50 a.m. April 21, 2002, in his home. He had been in ill health for a few months. Born July 6, 1930, in Frankfort, he was the son of Everett E., Sr., and Nora M. Dunkle Maxwell. His marriage was on Dec. 29, 1950, in Flora, to Nancy L. Brown, who survives. Mr. Maxwell formerly worked for Alloy Crafts, now Alloy Custom Products, near Delphi, and also did auto body maintenance before retiring due to ill health in 1982. He attended Flora High School and was a member of the Indiana National Guard and a former member of the Logansport Eagles. He enjoyed fishing and NASCAR. Also surviving are two sons, Chuck Maxwell and Rodney Maxwell, both of Delphi; three daughters, Cheryle Heckathorne and Cindy Kelly, both of Flora, and Pam Neal of Hillsboro; two brothers, Everett “Junior” Maxwell of Bringhurst and Jack Maxwell of Delphi; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a great-grandson. Services were held today, Wednesday, at Baker Funeral Home, Flora, with the Rev. Larry DeVos officiating. Burial was in Maple Lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Lung or Heart associations.
