Vocal Concert, Winfield 5-3 State Music Contest, large groups, Pekin. Annual A.FS. Panel On the morning of April 29th, at the W-MU gym, there will be an American Foreign Student Panel discussion hosted by Olive Prandi and the student council. There will be a charge of 10c per person. The purpose of the A.F S. panel is to give the WMU students an opportunity to meet and welcome the foreign students of the area and to learn about their countries. The expected foreign students are the following: Barbra Christensen, Norway, Olds Agnes Nakayenga, Uganda, Wash ington. John Wannan, Australia, Mt Pleasant, Evelyn Graham, Rhodesia, Bur lington. Luis Murillo-Bolanos, Costa Rica, Burlington. Matt Julisco, Sweden,Bloomfield. Dario Crosetto, Italy, Iowa City. Lynda Owen, Swaziland, Iowa City Ann Bergstrom, Olds, Denmark. Some of the topics which the dis cussion will cover are: the school system, government, and life in the students’ different countries, what the students liked or disliked about the US., and the most embarrassing experience they have had in this country. There is a talent show sch eduled, but plans are not defiinite. After the assembly, the students will be guests of the school for lunch and may stay to attend classes. The public is cordially invited to attend the assembly, which will begin at 9:20 a.m. Young Poet Receives Recognition Steve Norder, junior at WMU, was recently honored by having his poetry selected for publication in two anthologies. The first, “Lyrical Town,” is a pub lication of the Iowa Poetry Associ ation. There were 2,299 selections submitted in the high school divis ion, and twelve Iowa high school students, including Steve, were se lected for inclusion in the antho logy. The second anthology, “Young America Sings,” is a semi-annual publication based on nationwide competition. Both anthologies will be pur chased by the WMU library. Editorially Speaking Connie Burton The Graffiti Syndrome Most of the present Winfield high School students have at some time gone to the Mt. Pleasant Drive-in, and many of our girls have used the restroom there. We all know what it looks like—there is writing in ink and lipstick on the walls, ceil ings, and stalls. What impression do you get when you go in there, girls? It's dark and dirty and uninviting. Look at the restrooms at Saunder’s Park and at the fairgrounds in Mt. Pleasant. They're very similar to the restroom at the drive-in arty, dark, and written on. They look great, don’t they girls? Compare these restrooms with the restrooms at the Mediapolis school or Burlington Drive-in. Both are clean and brightly lit and there is no writing anywhere! When girls use these restrooms, they feel confident knowing that the rooms are clean and that intelligent people use them as they were intended to be used. Now go one Step further and look at the restrooms at our school. What is your reaction to them? Waco Relays The girls track team made a good showing at the Waco Relays, plac ing seventh with 26% points. Winners for WMU were: 1st - Distance Medley, 5:09, Bur ton, Payne, B. Finke, Kongable. 3rd - 880 yard relay, 1:59.5 Wick, Wick, Loyd, Youngman. 3rd - Mile Relay, 4:54, Burton, Loyd, C. Finke, Youngman. 1st - (tie) Softball Throw 193’2”, Cheryl Finke. 5th - Long Jump, 148”, Jean Wick. 5th - (tie) High Jump 44 , Jean Wick. 2nd - 220 yard dash, 29.1 Jean Wick. 5th (tie) 220 yard dash 30.0 Jill Wick.
