Program Of Chamber Music To Be Finale Of Lectures-Concerts SeriesFour members of the New York Chamber Soloists, an ensemble that specialises in performing rarely heard compositions, will present a concert Thursday.Their performance in Colton Chapel at 8 p.m. will be the last of five concerts offered this year by the Lectures - Concerts Series.The program will feature selections by Beethoven, Britten, Ravel nnd Mosart. The musicians will be Melvin Kaplan, oboist; Gcruld Tnrack, violinist; Yncz Lynch, violist; and Alexander Kouguell, cellist.Established in 1957, the eleven-member New York Chamber Soloists forms various ensembles for the performance of music ranging from early baroque ^iss Of 1967, ion Changessizing the school rather than ad-i ministration policy. Secondly, i through n program arranged by i the Sophomore Class Council,' freshmen could bo introduced into campus extracurricular activities,■ thus serving to end the apathy rc-; suiting from spending “all extra I time in a dorm.”On the social side Burghardt is* working for u shuttlebua between the college and Centenary, nnd for1 u part of the Marquis lounge to be 1 sectioned off as a place for frosh• to bring dates.Burghardt also commented on the freshman disciplinary board . which, he felt, must be opened to student inquiry so as to end the circulation of rumors and half-truths around campus.”through contemporary and featuring various combinations of instruments.Touring CompanyThe entire group hns participated in two F.uropcan tours, and more than n dozen compositions have been written apecifi-cally for the New York Chamber Soloists by American composers Gunther Schuller, Henry Brant, Easley Blackwood and Mel Powell.The group's 19fiJ tour concluded with a private concert performed in the palace at Monaco for Prince Rainier and Princess Grace and their Invited guests.Members of the New York Chamber Soloists who will not appear in the program here include Adele Addison, soprano; Charles Bressler, tenor; Samuel Baron, flute; Isidore Cohen, violin; Albert Fuller, harpsichord; Julius Levine, double bass; and Harriet Wingreen, pinno.BackgroundKaplan has been active In the field of chamber music as performer and organizer since he founded the New Art Wind Quintet at age 18. He is a teacher at the Julliard School of Music, from which he graduated.Tarack is the founder and first violinist of the Beaux Arts String Quartet and is a former concert-master of the Puerto Rico Symphony. He was a student of Ivan Galamian and a winner of the National Federation of Music Clubs concert.Miss Lynch, a graduate of the Yale Music School, has been active in professional chamber groups since she was 19 in New York and New England and on the West Coast. She has appearedalso as a recitalist in New England and in Europe.Kougucll is a native of Russia and studied in Paris with Charles Munch, Pierre Fournier and Nadia Boulanger. He was professor of music and languages at the American University in Beirut before joining the faculty of the music department at Queens College-Other concerts in this year s series have featured Rey de la Torre, classical guitarist; Beveridge Webster, pianist; Carolyn Stanford, mezzo soprano; and Die Wiener Solisten, chamber orchestra.The Lectures-Concerts Series also brought actor Bramwell Fletcher to the campus.
