Hammer, daughter of Seth and Elizabeth Hammer, was bom in Jasper county, Iowa, «lt;r April 1, 1851 and passed from ih earth April 19, 1930, aged 79 le years and 18 days. #c, Sept. 13, 1868 she was united *t in marriage with James H. Bales, at Kellogg, Iowa. To this union no children were born, but at an early age they took to raise, Curtis Slater, who died at 13 years of age. Later they took to raise, James G. with whom Mrs. Bales was living at the time of her death.During the first sixteen years of their married life they engaged in farming and general merchandising. In 1884 they moved to Eldora where Mr. Bales served as deputy treasurer and later as treasurer for four years. From 1891 until the time of his death in December 1911 he was interested in the banking bus-iness^ • • „Mrs. Bales lived in Hardin county continuously since 1884 until the time of her death. She was a member of the Friends church; Relief Corps and Ladies* Aid of the Methodist church.She leaves to mourn her.de? parture, her son, Janies G., two grand children, Jay and Faye, two brothers, Frank Hammer, of Orosi, Calif., and Adam Hammer, of Eldora, two sisters, Mrs. H* P. Bailey, of Hubbard and Mrs. Eva Rash, of, Union, besides nieces and nephews and numerous friends. ~She was a faithful mother, ioyal to church and friends.
