BEIIEVE TliK DISTRESSED.The ftieetlhg ai'tho City Hall, mi Monday evening to take steps to do something tow art's relieving the starving people of some parts of tho South, was attended by many of our liberal and loading citizens. Committees were appointed for each Ward in tho City and for Washington and Spriugcrecls townships,Tho Committees no doubt will-proceed at once to the discharge of their duties. This Is no holiday affair, where the parties are to bo helped to ono sumptuous meal. In many parts of the South women and children ore to-day actually starving for the want of food. They mo without money to purchase the necessaries of life. This condition of things will continue, if they don't die until crons now growing, inn tunc. They must el liter. starve or those whom God 1ms blessedwith abundance must contribute to their relief. Can we play for blessings upon our efforts to supply “our daily bread,” while -'we refuse or neglect to assist our starving neighbors ? Will our consciences permit us to sleep until we have done what wo ought in tidy matter?Food Is what is wanted, but money wig procure it. Let those who have- corn, wheat, Hour, or whatever else that will support life, bring it along, and it will beforwarded to its proper destination.— Those who have not such produce can contribute money, which will be expended for such necessaries of life.Wo have already heard of one widowlady though, not over blessed with this world's abundance, who sent to her minister three dollars, as a contribution to tho relief fund. Ifor lillio son also, *ent his TWISTY cents that he had laid up to buy toys, feeling that he would rather relieve from starvation some little boy in the South, than to enjoy the contemplated playthings. Let those high Christianexamples be emulated, and that Beingwho sees in secret will rewardyou openly.Tin; following persona were appointedto so! lei t donations:1st Wanl, Charles Gnle, Joshua Shipley, John Garner, Mr«.
