Win, Bnrnctt, late pilot’ of the Swallow for manslaughter.Gen. Joshua Whitney. The Republican, in connection with the death of Gen. Whitney, announced in our last, has the follow.ing notice of his life.“Gen. Whitney was born in Hillsdale, Columbia County, New-York, and removed to this county with his father Judge Joshua Whitney, in 1787, and hasresided in this town for the last 57 years. His father died when Gen. W. was about 19 years of age, leaving a large family of children, of whom Mr. Whitney was the eldest son. The county was then almost a wilderness, there being but few families in the town.Few men have risen higher by their own exertions, under similar difficulties. Ho was a man of greatenergy of character—was for many years an active merchant and farmer, and accumulated a large property ; he was one of the most active men tho county ever had—possessed of a strong mind and athleticframe, there was no hardship which he could not endure. He was for a great many years- one of theleading politicians of the State, .and was once Member of Assembly from this county, was one of a committee of three, with the late Judge Van Ness andMr. Emmet, to whom was referred the subject of dissolving the Federal party. For many years hisinfluence in this county was irresistable. Gen. W. has been agent for the Bingham estate for a periodof forty years, and during all that time has discharged his duty with promptness and fidelity. In whatever capacity it was his lot to be placed, he has always proved himself adequate to the responsibility imposed upon him. There is scarcely a Road, Bridge, Meet, ing House, or any other public improvement, towardswhich Mr. Whitney his not contributed more or less.It may safely be said that no man in the county has done as much for tho settlement of the county andthe improvement of fhs village as Gen. W. He leaves a large family of children, nine of whom arenow living, about forty grand children, and six oreight great-grand-cbildren to mourn bis loss. No onelias ever departed this life in this village, that wasmore identified with its history, its growth and prosperity. His memory will be long cherished by remi.nicences of his youth, handed down as almost tradUlionary legends of his youthful pioneering in the valley of the Chenango and Susquehanna, arrived a bringing sive, andThe dateParlia lidnvs. ■The d Cottonthe reduc from an lt;The n Robert Ely changslight alt The n resol uiioicreated lt;also the |a) AddreTheSting anythe JesuPrussia,Swiss gotl\o P,4«6Giona}place.- A rail bay.In Ch In Irelast meelleanest vdance wiIt is sito Irelan In cotengine bthree mlt;and 500)neighboiT ex aing reso 26. h of 1for somesee bowmerits ohsh) parcle makithe saketry, andmerston. The
