nig*. Project#in- The -gravel pit at the mouth of j Birch Creek canyon has become the | topic of much discussion ;and the '•object of much interest. The hopper :er and loading procedure is something )n* new to the people of this section as iwtell as to most of the boys in s'h camp. The cat and skraper-karrier s* were used in the digging of thei pit which sJtopes gradually to a depth ictf on about twelve feet on one side and runs out to the -road on the other. 031 Thisi meansi that although the' loading 1 pit is back some distance, its floor is almost on the level with the Birch i Creek road, k j The entire hillside to the left of j the road- is composed of good sui* facing material. The 55 bulldozer is .used to push the gravel from the hillside inbo the hopper. The floor “(of the hopper has two steel plates 'which slide back and forth in n groove and are worked by lewers in ^the loading pit. This maikes it possible to load one triuck light after the other in rapid succession as at takes an average of a minute per load for the gravel to run through the traps into the truck. The dozer has nolt; difficulty in keeping plenty of gravel in the hoppefr above. It is about the quickest^ cheapest, and ^ easieist method! of handling gravel — that we have yet seen devised.►+ (Plans are being made to establish 'the 50-man spike camp on . .Willow \X creek on or aboiut the first day of ‘iMay. This camp will be engaged in road construction.f The heavy snowfall holds some promise of few fires in this locality during the coming season. Of course we cannot be boo sure, as mother nature ploys many trickia Yet, last year was exceptionoily dry and no big fires occurred. We consider our-(selveg lucky to be stationed in a sec-stion.with such a slight fire hazard
