Tragedy Took Place in Office of Dr. R. S. Hosler in Ashville. Found Revolver in Absence of Physician and Sent Bullet Into His Brain Was Sufferer From Nervousness— Affected by Suicide of Friend. Martin Baker, a farmer, who bought the Harvey Trone farm near East Ringgold some years ago, committed suicide in the office of Dr. R. S. Hos ler at Ashville Sunday morning. The deed was committed while the doctor had stepped out to a drug store to secure some drugs to make up a prescription for his patient. The sui cide entered the doctor's sleeping room which adjoins his office during his ab sence, found a revolver in the dresser, stood in front of the mirror and sent the leaden messenger into his brain by firing the revolver pointing it at his right temple. When the doctor returned he found the prostrate form lying on the floor with blood streaming from an ugly wound made by the bullet. The wound ed man lived three quarters of an hour after the bullet entered his head. Little is known of the man’s ante cedents. It is said that a brother dies in an asylum and that he has another brother now a patient in a State hos pital... The suicide was a very nerv ous man and it was his idea to get some medicine to relieve his nervous ness that took him on the errand to the doctor's office. Farmers who live in the neighbor hood have noticed Mr. Baker of late, and say that he was a sufferer from nervousness. On Saturday, April 14, when the body of Harley C. Martian was found hanging in a barn, Mr. Baker was in th crowd when the coroner arrived on the serene. The tragedy evidently left some impres sion and suggested a way to Mr. Baker to take his own life. He was one of the pallbearers at the Martin funeral. The deceased was born May 4,1881 in Hocking county and married Miss Mattie Solt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Solt. His wife and two daughters sur vive. The children are thirteen and seven years of age.
