POLICE COURT PROCEEDINGS.ICASES OF LOCAL INTEREST HEARD AT HIS MAIESTT'S COURT IN WADENA.The cnee of Geo. B. Harris vs J. Bauchand, both of Peffigurd, wax heard before Jut*tinea Evans and Mabon ou Saturday last. The evidence of the prosecution went to•how that the ooinplaintant’s eon had left a quantity o! lurol»cr on the roadside and it was alleged that the Accused had paeaed on the same trail later and that certain boardswere identified at the accused* place as being identical with the boards left on the roadside by the compiaintant s son. The evidence of the defence was contradictory and purported to be a denial. Their worships thought there was not sufficient evidence to convict and they dismissed the case. We understand that an appeal is being taken to a higher court.The case of Thomas Dann ra I. A. Diner was heard before Justice Evans on Monday. Attorney O' Connor appeared for the prosecution and J. Hearn for the deferse. Mr. Hearn objected to Justice Evans sitting on the case on the ground of his holding positions under the Attorney General s Department. This was overruled. Mr. Hearn then asked to have another Justice sit on the case. His worship replied that the court was properly constitualed and the case would proceed. C. O'Sullivan being duly sworn testified as to the defendant being the licensee of Hotel Diner and also produced certain documents purporting to have bean issued by the Attorney General. Mr. Hearn raised an objection to the signature of Deputy Attorney General Colcough. This was overruled. Mr. Hearn raised a further objection requiring proof that T. A. Colcough was the Deputy Attorney General. The objection was overruled His Worthip remarking that it was a matter of common knowledge. EBflTJohn Williams, being duly sworn, that he was in Wadena on April 4th. last, That be was employed by the Provincial Government in the Beeret Service. That he registered at the Wadena Hotelon the day of April 4th. After supper about ten minutes past seven, in company with Peter Weist, he walked up past the Hotel Diner; the lights were still in the bar and two men in the bar-room. They walked upas far as the creameryand returned and the lights were ♦lid burning in the bar-room and * the two men still there. Hr testified that they went into the sitting room of the Diner Hotel and that the door was open between the off-ios and the bar-room and the two men still in the bar-room. Cram* examined, by Mr. Hearn, he testi-fied that he was sent hers to see if the hotels were being run in a business like way. He aiao testified that he had never heard of a simil-iar case to the one then proceeding. Ha further said that he did not know who the people were behind the bar. • ~The evidence of Peter Weist, thenext wjtnesa, was in all essentialdetails a recital of the events toldby the proceeding witness.
