THAT IS AMOUNT COMMITTEE WANTS FOR ORGANIZATION OF CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.^ _I V.Y.I •’ **Members of the Committee AppearedBefore Council at Meeting LastNight in Interest of New Organiza-j tion—Appropriations Expected.-The mayor and council of the city of Brunswick and the commissioners of roads and revenues of Glynn county will be asked to appropriate $2,000 each for the maintenance of a paid secretary and for other expenses of a new chamber of commerce, which is shortly to be organized in BrunswickV'arious members of the special committee appointed at the meeting held a few weeks ago appeared before ^council last night and urged, the | appropriation by the city. The mem- i bers present were F. E. Twitty, chair- ; man, L. R. Akin, F. D. Aiken and C. rf. Leavy. Each of these gentle-i men made a short address to council, urging the great need of such a com- { mereial body just at this time. Chair-• man 1 witty, who was the spokesman of he committee, presented a petition to (ouncil asking the appropriation,which is as follows: ITo tlje Honorable Mayor and Council: The undersigned, as commmee ap- | pointed at a meeting of the citizens 1 of the city, appear before you in accordance with the terms of the resolution which was adopted by that j meoiihg requesting appropriations by ' the ccunty and city sufficient to pay the expenses of a commercial organization of inis cit including a paid secretary.We have considered the matter oi the minimum amount of funds that should be provided for the first year to -troperly support a commercial or-1 ganization similar to a chamber of commerce or board of trade, including the salary of a competent secretary and executive officer who will devote | practically his entire time to the duties of his office, and also including incidental expenses such as stationery, stamps and advertising. It will, of course, be important to issue and nave published for distribution, a pamphlet setting forth the advantages of the city and the county. To get the benefit of the great development that is now and will for some years to tome unquestionably pervade the entire South, it is necessary that we should take proper steps to perfect an organization which shall have an i officer that will give his time to the ! work. Much has been done by our citizens through various organizations
