American Vespucci.—A Florentine loaf* ere** railing herself by this name, and pro* tv**fling to have descended from Amerigo Vespucci, is one of the* humbugs of the day at the north. Having petitioned Congress in the language of a luaty beggar without effect, she is non* laying the private purses of the citizens under contribution. If she succeeds throughout the Union in her men-. dicant operations as she does at the north, she will be almost as successful a humbug as Americas himself, who gave his name to ; a continent which Columbus discovered; she will thus prove herself a Vespucci beyond doubt. We advise Miss Vespucci | to come south w here the people are liberal,!—have plenty of money,—are gallant and patriotic. We should like to lake a sifnint at her ourself.—Query.— Could not som* foreign lady do a still better business, by setting up for a descendant of Columbus ? The experiment »• well worth a trial.HcsAUtf is »o palatable now-a-days, that if an individual w ere to represent himself as a descendant of Genghis Khan and Maria Monk he would create more won-dcrmcnt than incredulity.
