Montague Rebekah Lodge of Rock Falls and was active in Girl Scout work. Surviving besides her husband are a son, Merle, with the armed forces in Germany, and two daugh ters, Robyn Eleanor Weigant, Rock Falls, and Marcia J., at home. There is also one grandson, Rickey Lee. In addition three brothers sur vive, Melvin Lamb, Fr. Pierce, Fla., Harvey T. Lamb, Laredo, Mo., and Raymond N. Lamb, LaMoile as do two sisters, Mrs. Roy Midkirk, Bel videre, Tl., and Mrs. Lawrence Slus ser, Huntington, W. V. A brother Edward proceeded her in death as did her parents. Mrs. Frances Smith Mrs. Frances Smith, of 742 Wal lace St., Sterling, was born in Bue na Vista, Ga., July 1, 1900, a daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Matt Holton. She had been a resident of this area for a number of years and since August 1948 had been em ployed at Dixon State School. She was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church of Sterling Surviving are two sons, Jesse, of Sterling, with whom she made her home, and James of Kansas City, Mo.; two brothers, Lester Holton and Matt Holton Jr., both of Moul trie, Ga.; three sisters, Mrs. Mary ola Davis, Mrs. Ettie Wilson, both of Moultrie and Mrs Maggie Franklin, Buena Vista, Ga.; and 10 grandchildren Her husband, Curtis Smith, pre ceded her in 1927 The body was removed to the Melvin Funeral Home, where friends may call afternoon Satur day Funeral arrangements are being completed PHOTO BY GAZETTE .Terrific damage to 1952 model car driven by Philip Sofolo, 1303 West St., Dixon, gives indication that impact must have happened when the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed. Nehrkorn to work her day off and as a result she had taken Thursday and Friday night off this week. State troopers at first mistakenly identified one of the victims as Mrs. Nehrkorn when a purse with her name and address was found near one of the victims. Mrs. Nehrkorn said that Harts was a very careful driver and in all the trips that they had made back and forth to Dixon that he had never had even a close call. Talk To Witness Thes Daily Gazette today con tacted a key witness in the acci dent. He is 17-year-old Ronald Hed rick, 1801 E. 3rd St., Sterling, a stu dent at Sterling Township High School. Hedrick that he was returning from Dixon shortly after 10:30 p.m. and saw a car approaching through his rear view mirror, at a high rate of speed. At the crest of a hill near the scene of the accident Hedrick said the car came around his ve hicle at high speed and cut in so sharply that, Hedrick said, he had to apply his braker quickly to avoid hitting him. Hedrick said the car was travel ing at a terrific speed and was swerving. Hedrick said that almost immediately after the car (which was later identified as being driven by Sofolo) cut in that it again swerved to the left and that it ap peared to be heading for the ditch on the south side of the road but again headed west and hit the car driven by Harte just off center on the right side. Hedrick said he had to jam on his breaks to avoid the crashed ve hicles and spun his own car around in the road. No damage was done to Hedrick’s car. Hedrick immediate ly went to the aid of the victims and told a passerby to summon police and ambulances. After the impact the Harts car spun around, with the entire right side torn off, and ended up facing west on the north side of the high way. The Sofolo car went off the roadway into the ditch on the southside of the highway. Mrs. Virginia Lee Anspach Mrs. Virginia Lee Anspach of 503 9th Ave., Rock Falls, died Thursday evening @6 4 result of an auto ac cident. Mrs. Anspach was born March 20, 1914 in Amboy, Ill., the daughter of Sharon and Mary Amsbaugh. She is survived by her husband, Ronald; three daughters, Mrs. Don (Ronetta) Smith of Rock Falls, Mary Ellen An spach at home and Luzetta Anspach also at home; two sons, Kenneth of Byron, Al., and William of Rock Falls; four grandchildren: three sis ters, Mrs. Walter (Zella) Brian, Naperville, Ill; Mrs. Alice Nicholas, and Mrs. Marie Hart, of Rock Falls; one brother Jacob Amsbaugh of Sterling; several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles also survive in cluding Mrs. Alice Dodson and Mr. Bertha Brown of Sterling. Services will be 3 p.m. Monday at the Wheelock Funeral Home with the Rev. C. Richard Dawson of the Rock Falls Christian Church, of ficiating with burial in Oak Knoll Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Sat urday, Mrs. Agnes Beckman Funeral services are complete at the Allen Funeral Home for Mrs. Agnes Beckman who died almost in stantly in an accident Thursday eve ning Mrs. Agnes Beckman was born on Oct. 15, 1916 in Minneapolis, Minn., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Orville Zeigler. She is survived by two daughters, Miss Judy Beckman at home and Mrs. Gene (Vickie) Allison of Ster ling; five sons, Lawrence Beckman Jr., of Ociana, Calif. David and Nick of Rock Falls, Daryl and Curt at home; her father, Orville Zeigler of Sterling; two brothers, John and Robbie Zeigler of Sterling; four sisters, Mrs. Grover (Helen) Green, Sterling, Mrs. James (Ruth) Green, Prairieville, Mrs. James Brown of Rock Falls, Mrs. James (Betty) White of Milledgeville; four grand children; several nieces and nephews also survive. She was united in marriage to Law rence Beckman on Aug. 11, 1934 in Clinton, Iowa. He preceded her in death on November 3, 1956. She had worked at the Dixon State School for about 1‘ years. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Allen Funeral Home with the Rev. Horace Bressler of the Free Metho dist Church of Sterling officiating with burial in Oak Knoll Memorial Park. Friends may call at the fu neral home after 7 p.m. Friday. Mrs. Verie Weigant Funeral services for Mrs. Verle K (Ida) Weigant will be held Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Melvin Funeral Home with the Rev. Rus sel Fate, pastor of the First Con gregational Church of Rock Falls officiating. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. Saturday. She was born Jan. 10, 1916 in Buda, Ill., the daughter of Nathan A. and Mary N. Horton Lamb. She was married on June 24, 1934 in Buda to Verle K. Weigant. They re sided in this area for the past 12 years, recently at 1102 8th Ave., Rock Falls. Since June 14, 1957 she had been employed as a psychiatric aid at the Dixon State School The deceased was an active mem ber of the First Congregational
