Costs $24,500.00 Premier Hearst has announced the names of the new Provincial Board of License Commissioners. They start their duties on 5th of May, so that the old County License Commission ers when they have settled this year’s licenses on 1st of May will step down and out. The nominees are all well-known, all Conservatives, and have a good record. Not one of them it is said applied for the of fice, but were personal selections of the Premier. The appointees are as follows : J.D. Fiavelle, Merchant, Lind say, Chairman, salary $6500. W.8. Dingman, Publisher, Strat ford, Vice Chairman, salary $6000. Fred Dane, Commercial agent for Canada at Glasgow, late at Toronto, salary $4000. John A. Ayearst, Government Li quor Law Enforcement official, Tor onto, salary $4000. Geo. T. Smith, Mining Recorder, Haileybury, salary ¢ » We will be pleased indeed if the new Commissioners with the wide powers succeed in the enforcement of the Liquor laws. The Election Menace Under this heading, John Hunter in the Globe has some pithy remarks. He says “ to-day, judging from ar ticles in the Government press and from cartoons spread broadcast, any who object to the methods the Gov ernment is pursuing are to be re proached as being disloyal. He then recalls the autocratic ac tion of the Family Compact in 1837 when resentment to the slanderous cry of disloyalty brought about re bellion and asks ‘‘ Shall history re peat itself? May not the despotic forcing of an untimely and of an ab solutely unwarranted election and of the hurling of a malicious libel of disloyalty against one of our great political parties at a time of imperial stress and strain unprecedented in history, create such a fierce political pandemonium as to be disastrous to the peace and prosperity of the Can adian people for ages to come ? The one desire of our people from ocean to ocean, and irrespective of race, party or creed, is to render the fullest measure of help to the Empire in her titanic struggle. All that our Parliament is asked to do is to be honest and efficient in carrying out the one purpose of all Canadians.
