Horrible Affair*Onthe evening of the 7th inst., a most horrible murder was committed in Logan township, in this county. Samuel Hodge and his wife had been in the babit o( drinking very freely, and as a matter of course quarreling very fiercely. Blows and abuse bad frequently passed Ietween them, wlien on the night of which we speak, they came to a crisis which ended the existence of the unfortunate husband. On the follow iug morning, Squire Homer held an inquest over the body of the’ deceased, but we do not exactly understand why they brought the verdict ‘of murder committed by person or persons unknown.* Every circumstance pointed out the wife as the murderess. The iloor, the tabh, and *hc bed upon which he lay—all werj smeared with blood. An iron wedge and a hatchet thoroughly dyed in gore, were discovered in the room. There were 8 or 10 large wounds upon the victims head, five of which penetrating the scull, would either of them have causet death. Besides these, a large number of small punctured wounds covered the face and head, showing a fiendish determination to complete the murder for they must have been inflicted w hile the mau was in a state of insensibility.
