Randall G. Mannella of New Castle High School and Mark A. Sitarik of Neshannock High School were awarded Caroline Knox Scholarships at a dinner last night at the New Castle Country Club. The scholarships provide full tuition for four years to the colleges of the winners’ choice, and are awarded on the basis of academic achievement and school citizenship along with es says submitted by each can didate Mannella, son of Mr. and Mrs William J. Mannella of 123 E. Garfield Ave, plans to attend Harvard University and pursue a career in medicine. He has been an outstanding student involved in many and varied activities in addition to his academic achievements. He is a member of American Field Service and was an ex change student to Chili for the summer of 1975. He is also a member of the National Honor Society, Forlan staff, Key Club, newspaper staff, Pergodian staff, Spanish Club, and Student Coun cil. In 1975, he was a finalist in the National Merit Competition and has won many awards for ex cellence, such as the Rensselaer Award in mathematics. Toward his goal in the medical field, he applied for and was accepted for a National Science Foundation program at Hahnemann Medical College and Hospital in 1974. Sitarik, son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael A. Sitarek of 219 Mission Meade Drive, equally qualifies as an outstanding student with many varied activities. He plans a career in medicine as he states in his essay that, since the age of six, the guiding force of his life has been to become a physician. He has applied to and been accepted at Gannon College for the six-year Family Practice program offered in connection with Hahnemann Medical College in Philadelphia. His teachers give him the highest rating in seriousness of purpose, industry, initiative, leadership, concern for others, responsibility, emotional stability, and consistency of pur pose with integrity un questionable and independent study excellent. Sitarek is also a member of the National Honor Society, and belongs to the Math Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society and Future Scientists of America. Other candidates were Kimberly Jones and Paul Laskey of Laurel High School; James Calve and Lynda Malutich of Lincoln High School, Ell wood City; Laurie Marsh and Jennifer Williams of Mohawk High School and Alyce Marcotuli of Neshannock High School. In addition, candidates includ ed Frank Golba of New Castle High School; Samuel Zingaro Jr. and Karen Kelly of Shenango High School; Barbara Mangine and Denise Piscinieri of Union High School; Lori Cioffi and Cathy Coyne of Villa Maria, Carol Sikora and Sarah Blackwell of Wilmington High School.
