NORTON SHORES (UPD A south-central Michigan man suffered minor injuries Wednesday when the sand hauling truck he was driving was hit by a Grand Trunk Railroad train James Eisner, 49, of Manitou Beach, suffered cuts and bruises and was reported in satisfactory condition at Mercy Hospital in Muskegon Officials said Eisner was trapped in the wreckage for 55 minutes and during that time it was feared the gasoline tank beneath of each of his truck would rupture because it had been twisted under the train Grand Trunk — section foreman James Shaw said the 16-car train loaded with sand stopped within one car length of the intersection and was traveling about 5 mph. The train, which did not derail, was leaving the Nugent Sand Co Inc. facility as Kisner, who was driving a L.J Beal Sons Co. truck, was pulling into the area Kisner apparently did not see the train coming and witnesses said the truck swerved just before impact There are no flashing lights at the intersection and there is quite a bit of foliage in the area, obscuring the view About 150 persons gathered to watch rescue workers try to pry Kisner out of his truck Several area residents said they often hear vehicles come to a screeching halt at the intersection and one woman said she has had several close calls
