Yesterday ObMokUh reporter made * flying visit to that part Of the town, and found things ^lively the*© ah anywhere else within the olty limits. A small army of men are constantly at work on the new and elegant steamer Fannie Potter, which lies on the stocks. Carpenter*/' boiler makers, machinists, painters and glariers, were found mingling in a sort of 4‘ordejiy confusion,M if the paradoxical expression is admissible, and all Juafc as busy as bees in June.. The crash of saws, clatter of hammers, and the loud ringing clangor of the boiler makers, all combined to produce a bulf-deafening and bewildering did. However, this busy scene, and the loud notes of human Industry are sonic of the many cheerful indications that Portland is moving steadily forward, in the course of improvement.Mr. J. H. Stefleu, whofcns personal charge • of the work, was seen here, thpre and every-s where, giving directions to. tlie men. and . pushing the different departments of labor * as rapidly forward as possible.
