Importance of Drama Is Stressed By Prof. Bates“In this period of increased leisure, the problem of recreation is making the fields of Physical Education, Music, and Drama more important every day” This was one of the high spots of a speech by Dr. Erl Bates, authority on Indian life and a member of the Cornell faculty, at the Theta Alpha Phi banquet, Friday evening, April 12. Dr. Bates discussed the relationship between the beginnings of drama and the religious rites of the primitive peoples. His speech covered a wide scope of material and was useful as well as interesting for those students of dramatics who' are going into the field of teaching.President Lucille Ellsworth presided at the banquet and introduced Mrs. Broughton, faculty advisor who related some humorous faux pas that she picked out of various newspapers and periodicals. Miss Ellsworth then presented the speaker of the evening to the members of the fraternity.Preceding the banquet, Margaret Itter, Joan Anixter, and Norma Downs were initiated into Theta Alpha Phi.
