Scenes Represent Flower Gar dens and Night Scenes in Burma HAS STUDIED IN EUROPE McLeary Made Bicycle Trip Through France to Sketch By Verda Jarrell Four flaming, gorgeous silk cur tains, each 25 by 60 feet in size, have been prepared as background draperies for the setting of the car gation of the Queen of the 1925 Varsity Circus at the University of Texas. Designed and sketched by Kindred McLeary, a student of ar chitecture in the University, and executed under his direction, the curtains are the expression of the genius of the young architect. Of all the decorations and scen ery that have been made for the biennial circus, the four curtains are the most artistic and striking. They carry out the Burmesian note that characterizes the entire pro duction. Has Flame Motif _ The most colorful curtain has for its motif a base of flames from which green smoke swirls in spirald across a dark blue background. Splotches of rose and white relieve the solid blue, making the finish ed curtain an exquisite reproduction of a Burmesian scene. A darker curtain is the one with a royal pur ple background. The third curtain is brighter and represents a flower garden. The last curtain has a pur ple background and depicts a night scene in Burma. Green, purple and other colored lanterns light up the heavy cloud of the purple back. The curtains are to furnish the background for the elaborate stage Setting for the coronation of the Varsity Queen that is to be given in conjunction with a Burmese mas que. The designs are the original work of Kindred McLeary. Designed by McLeary Kindred MccLeary of Columbus, the designer of the curtains, is a senior in the department of archi tecture, having spent four years in Texas University. In the summer of 1923 MecLeary went to France. At Fontainebleau he began his study of architecture and sketching un der Monsieur Jacques Carlu. Mc Leary spent the winter at the French Academy in Rome, again studying under Monsieur Carlu, who had been appointed Premier Grand Prix de Rome. In April of 1924 MacLeary tok a bicycle trip, travelling about four hundred miles around the coast of Brittanny. He made a special study of ruins, sketching them as unusual pieces of architecture. In the fall of 1924 Kindred Mc Leary again entered the University of Texas and will receive his de gree in June. This year he has been active in preparing the stage set tings for the Curtian Club plays, “Hedda Gabler” and “Sister Beat rice.” He is now art decorator of the Varsity Circus and is executing many of the ideas that he picked up while in Europe.
